The headlight system is made up of elliptical reflector lamp unit and a reflecting device. Two different types of low- beam lights are used in this investigation to produce three light distribution pattern. The light distribution pattern conformed to the ECE Regulation Nos.112. The design of headlight system use to produce the light pattern from the LED source is based on US patent US6882110. In this research, the light distribution pattern of low-beam has been divided into cut-off line, hot zone and diffusion region. LuxeonTM III portable white LED (LXHL-PW03) made by Lumileds is used as light source. The LED light source is placed at the first focus of the elliptical reflector. The light will reflect and converge at the second focal point. The light distribution pattern is diverged using another lens is used to diverge and allowed to fall on a screen placed at 25 meters from the second lens. The headlight system can produce different luminous intensity distribution to set the quantity and angle of lamp units in two types units that can produce three light distribution pattern. The headlight system use different quantity of light at different angle to produce three light distribution pattern from two types units. These lamp units use optical software Light Tools to simulate and analyze the light distribution pattern and its luminous intensity for reaching the ECE R112.
