description 碩士 === 朝陽科技大學 === 幼兒保育系碩士班 === 95 === The purpose of the study was to investigate ECCE (Early Childhood Care and Education ) technological university students’ English learning conditions and feelings;the attitudes toward English learning of young children;and the attitudes toward the contemporary tendency of English learning of young children and the teachers’ training in Taichung county and city area. The participants of the study are seniors at the Day-Department in the department of Early Childhood Care and Education(ECCE). The design of the study consists of quantitative methodologies. The questionnaire contains the personal background, the scale for English learning situation and feeling, the scale for the attitude towards English learning of young children, and the scale for the attitude towards the contemporary tendency of English learning of young children and the teachers’ training. The results of the study are analyzed through quantitative methodologies. The researcher also anticipates that the results of the study can let government institutions and school institutions be for reference. After analyzing, the main discoveries are as follows: 1.The ECCE students expect the top- three English courses designed by schools are as follows: English conversation, English listening, and the training of English pronunciation. The students expect the top-five English courses designed by departments are as follows: teaching children English for daily livings, teaching children English for stories, the training of English pronunciation, teaching children English for songs and rhymes, and teaching children English for dramas. 2.More than 50 percent of ECCE students are content with the English courses of general education designed by schools. More than 60 percent of ECCE students are content with the courses of teaching English for young children designed by the departments of Early Childhood Care and Education. 3.Talking about the difficulties of learning English, the top-three courses that the ECCE students think them as very difficult are English writing, English grammar, and oral expression. And talking about memorizing vocabularies, the ECCE students think it not too difficult. 4.Even though the students may recognize that they don’t have enough abilities to engage in teaching English for young children, they are still willing to be educated by the courses of teaching English for young children. 5.More than 50 percent of ECCE students think that it can increase the accepting degree of the exotic cultures for young children to learn English, it can increase young children’s toleration and respect for other races for young children to learn English, young children learn English fast because of their good memories, and young children’s accent can access to native speakers more if they learn English. 6.More than 40 percent of ECCE students think that it’s necessary to let young children learn English ahead of time, and it can ease learning stress for young children to learn English. But, More than 60 percent of ECCE students think it may increase young children’s burden to learn English. 7.More than 70 percent of ECCE students think that the teachers who teach English in the kindergartens or child care centers must have the qualifications of children education. About 30 percent of ECCE students think that the teachers graduated from the department of English are more appropriate to be early childhood English teachers. About 20 percent of ECCE students think that the foreign teachers are more appropriate to be early childhood English teachers. 8.More than 70 percent of ECCE students think that they should promote their English abilities to accommodate the tendency of learning English for young children, the authorities for education should plan the curriculum of training early childhood English teachers and find out the good measures to make young children learn English, the teachers graduated from the department of Early Childhood Care and Education are more appropriate to be early childhood English teachers, and the curriculum of teaching English for young children should be compulsory. Besides, only about 30 percent of ECCE students comprehend the contemporary policies of early childhood English education. According to the discoveries and the results of the study, the suggestions that the researcher offers are as follows: 1.If colleges deliver courses, they can give courses like English conversation, English listening, and the training of English pronunciation. If the departments of Early Childhood Development and Education deliver courses, they can give courses like teaching children English for daily livings, teaching children English for stories, the training of English pronunciation, teaching children English for songs and rhymes, and teaching children English for dramas. 2.If the students at the department of ECCE are interested in English writing, the teachers can encourage students to learn basic English writing, and to read some easy articles that interest students. The teachers who teach students English should strengthen their concepts about English grammar and oral expression as possible as they can. 3.The ECCE students are willing to be cultivated and educated by the courses of teaching English for young children. Therefore, the researcher suggests that schools should give some early childhood English courses which correspond to students’ abilities and cultivate students to have abilities to teach English. 4.The ECCE students think the curriculum of teaching English for young children should be compulsory. Therefore, the researcher suggests that in order to promote students’ English abilities, the early childhood English curriculum should be planned to be compulsory by schools. 5.The participants of the study are seniors at the day-department in the department of Early Childhood Care and Education. Other researchers can choose freshmen to seniors to be participants. 6.Moreover, other researchers in the future can keep investigating the ECCE students’ English learning conditions and feelings, the attitudes toward English learning of young children, and the attitudes toward the contemporary tendency of English learning of young children and the teachers’ training in the Continuation –Department. Besides, other researchers can compare the Day-Department students with the Continuation –Department students if there are any significant differences on students’ English learning conditions and feelings, the attitudes toward English learning of young children, and the attitudes toward the contemporary tendency of English learning of young children and the teachers’ training.
