The main purposes of this research were to examine the differences in residents’ perceptions and preferences for the environment modification at different drainage areas and their relationship as well. This information could provide the basic concepts for the discussion of environment management in drainage areas. Residents who live nearby those four drainage areas were accidentally selected as the respondents in this study. A questionnaire survey was used as a study tool to collect data in two sampling days including June 29th and July 1st in 2006 with a total of 309 valid questionnaires in this survey. The results of this study have shown as following: First of all, residents of different areas would perceive significantly different in the reasons of flooding due to different flooding frequencies. The drainage channels and their surrounding environments were consistently perceived as imperfect by residents although they live in different areas. However, the ways to improve the bad environment conditions were perceived significantly different by residents of different areas. As to the satisfaction of the environment quality, residents’perceptions have shown significantly different yet the senses of smelling and visual conditions were the same bad even in different drainage areas. Secondly, residents of different drainage areas had significant differences in the contents of environment modification because their priority of these contents could be different. As to the residents’ perceptions for the future vision of the environment modification, their perceptions were also significantly different due to their different living situations in each drainage area. Third, there was a significant relationship between perceptions of the environment and their preferences for the environment modification for residents who live in the drainage areas. When the residents agreed with the malfunction of the Wen-Tsann Yang Hsiu-Hsiung Tai 楊文燦 戴秀雄 2007 學位論文 ; thesis 105 zh-TW
