In this research, a modeling and meshing software MSC.Patran is employed to build the 3-D finite element model of the steam piping and suspension system, and then, the model is solved by MSC.Nastran. The analyzing processes include: (1) finite element analyzing the deformation of piping system caused by static load under cold state and comparing the results with laser measurement values; (2) modeling the steam piping system under high temperature and high pressure, and analyzing the maximum stress caused basically by thermal expansion. The computer modeling results are well matched with the real situation of the steam piping system. Since computer modeling procedures can effectively predict the location of crack in the steam piping system, this research provides an efficient way to improve the piping and suspension system in a power plant.
