According to patent management charts, Japan and USA are the dominant countries researching in this field. Most patents were filed during 1991 to 2004. Moreover, the sifted 357 patents mainly converged on D06F, D01F, D06M and D06L. By reviewing patent technology charts, we realized the application of ozone in textiles was versatile, including five aspects:(1)laundering for cleaning, sterilization or deodorization, (2)colorant treatment related, such as bleaching, decolonization or fading of dyed garment, (3)fiber surface modification, for antifelting, activation, hydrophilic treating or bonding improved, (4)dyeing process for dyeability improved, oxidation and color developing, discharge printing, (5)carbon fiber preparing. In many cases, ozone usually was applied by combinating with other physical treatment and chemical materials, such as ultrasound, UV light, plasma, functional resin, reduction agent, detergent etc. From patent intelligence, we realize allure of ozone application in textiles comes from ecology and energy saving, yet the technology bottleneck won’t be broken through and the industrial benefit won’t be created unless we put more effort on integrating and innovating.
