碩士 === 輔仁大學 === 翻譯學研究所在職專班 === 95 === Abstract As part of the project, “A History of Literary Translation in Taiwan,” this thesis deals with the translations, from American young adult fiction into Chinese, done, published, and circulated in Taiwan during the period between 1949 and 2006. This thesis includes five chapters. Chapter One is the introduction which defines “young adult,” identifies the scope and methods for research, and explains one related material about the thesis. Chapter Two describes the development of American young adult fiction and translations and features of American young adult fiction in Taiwan during different periods. Chapter Three describes the translations of young adult classic novels in Taiwan. Translations of some novelists are addressed. Translators, publishers, and visions of classic novels in Taiwan are featured. Translations of Little Women are used as an example to discuss pirated editions. Chapter Four describes the translations of young adult contemporary novels in Taiwan. Translations of some novelists are also addressed. Translators, publishers, and visions of contemporary novels in Taiwan are featured as well. Chapter Five is the conclusion which summarizes the findings and results from the research. The bibliography section lists all books, papers, and on-line resources that contribute to the research. Nearly 500 translations are indexed in the appendix.
