(Lauraceae) is a medium-sized evergreen tree, grown in central to south China, Burma, Cambodia, Taiwan, Malaysia, and Indonesia. The chemical constituents and the biological activity of this plant have not yet been identified. In continuation of a program toward the studies of chemotaxonomy and biologically active components from Formosan Lauraceous plants. Investigation on the MeOH extract of the stem of this species has led to the isolation of 23 compounds, three new butanolides, namely: subamolide A (1), subamolide B (2), and subamolide C (3); a new secobutanolide, secosubamolide (4); as well as other 19 known compounds, including two butanolides: linderanolide B (5), isolinderanolide B (6); two flavan-3-ols: (+)-catechin (7), (-)-epicatechin (8); two lignans: (-)-sesamin (9), (+)-syringaresinol (10); six benzenoids: vanillin (11), vanillic acid (12), ferulic acid (13), p-hydroxy- benzaldehyde (14), syringaldehyde (15), eugenol (16); four steroids: ??sitosterol (17), stigmasterol (18), ??sitosteryl-D-glucoside (19), stigmasteryl-D-glucoside (20); one ionone: (+)-abscisic acid (21); and two aliphatic compounds: palmitic acid (22), stearic acid (23) were isolated from the stem of C. subanenium by means of MeOH extraction.
