Investigation on the MeOH extract of the stem of this species has led to the isolation of 23 compounds, three new butanolides, namely: subamolide A (1), subamolide B (2), and subamolide C (3); a new secobutanolide, secosubamolide (4); as well as other 19 known compounds, including two butanolides: linderanolide B (5), isolinderanolide B (6); two flavan-3-ols: (+)-catechin (7), (-)-epicatechin (8); two lignans: (-)-sesamin (9), (+)-syringaresinol (10); six benzenoids: vanillin (11), vanillic acid (12), ferulic acid (13), p-hydroxy- benzaldehyde (14), syringaldehyde (15), eugenol (16); four steroids: ??sitosterol (17), stigmasterol (18), ??sitosteryl-D-glucoside (19), stigmasteryl-D-glucoside (20); one ionone: (+)-abscisic acid (21); and two aliphatic compounds: palmitic acid (22), stearic acid (23) were isolated from the stem of C. subanenium by means of MeOH extraction.
