The object of this research is the M&A cases of the Bank SinoPac and the International Bank of Taipei. The paper is purporting to achieve the goal: the relationship between core competencies and the mergers of related banks,the setting of advanced managerial positions in a merged new bank after the merge The conclusions of this study are presented as follows: 1. Core competencies are important factors affecting the successful M&A of commercial banks. 2. The share holding pattern between shareholders does not necessarily determine the designating advanced managerial positions. 3. The impact of core competencies exerting on the designating of advanced managerial positions in a merged new enterprise is evident. 4. The merged new enterprise needs to strengthen the effective allocation of the strategic resources (core competencies and power structure etc.). The importance of these conclusions can be seen in the following perspectives: first, the new merged bank should pay due attention to make effective use of the core competencies and the managerial powers; second, effective communication should be conducted to realize the synergy effect of M&A.
