Description
Summary:碩士 === 嶺東科技大學 === 視覺傳達設計研究所 === 95 === The structure and combination of Chinese character design combine with the national spirit of Chinese culture. The visual and aesthetic expression of Chinese characters also creates beautiful poems. The Chinese character passes through the long-time development and forms the unique semantic characteristic. The characteristic affects the expression of Chinese character design in rhetoric. The rhetoric application is gradually attached importance to creative design. “Metonymy” that is one of the figures of speech is applied frequently to Chinese character design. The study follows the theory results from several rhetoricians. After arrangement of metonymy in figures of speech, this study reorganizes two types with twelve kinds of the projects and then collects some relative works of Chinese character design. Through the procedure for contrasting both theoretical results and collected works, this study found that the design types tally with the reorganization. As a result, the structure of metonymy in figures of speech exists and applies to Chinese character design. Also, metonymy is mentioned in this study to be a practicability in creative idea and visual expression of Chinese character design. Excluding to prove that metonymy could be a practicable application in Chinese character design, comprehending the metonymy and putting into practice is another goal of this study. The writer of this study applied metonymy to design Chinese characters. In process of creating and displaying the design works, we examined the sequence of ideas for Chinese characters and arranged methods of metonymy in Chinese character design. The purpose of this study is to offer Chinese character designers or researchers a reference direction. Chinese character is not only the mother tongue in Chinese, but also a memory in our life. Chinese character design is corresponded to the designer’s personality and enthusiasm, including experiences of designer’s life. Through the exhibition of designer’s Chinese character design, audience could take an interaction and scale new heights in rhetoric. According to a theory called “The death of author” from Roland Barhes, we handed over the power of the interpreted creations in Chinese character design to audience. Therefore, the vision of rhetoric and the application of metonymy could appear in audience’s mind.
