Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立中興大學 === 土木工程學系所 === 95 === The most common type of compression member used in buildings is the column, a vertical member whose primary function is to support vertical loads. Members subjected to axial compression forces are to be treated in this research. Although substantial research of compression members has been done in the past, there is a limited research in T-shaped compression members which include double-angle shapes or WT shapes. The AISC specifications, which include the LRFD (3rd edition) and the AISC (2005), provide provisions for strength evaluation of T-shaped compression members which made of either double-angle shapes or WT shapes. The evaluation is a quite tedious procedure and is not an easy task for practicing engineers. The calculation process of critical stress for each buckling mode is also quite tedious especially for singly symmetric or asymmetric sections. This study devoted to give a better and user-friendly way to deal with the evaluation of general compression members, especially for T-shaped members. The calculated values based on the AISC formulas are compared with the tabulated ones given by AISC design manual. It is found that there are minor differences between the calculated and the tabulated.
