Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立成功大學 === 建築學系碩博士班 === 95 === Since Dr. James L. Maxwell preached gospel into Taiwan in the first place, the southern Christian Presbyterian Church is not totally implanted from the West. Some affected factors such as geographical environment, cultural background, forms for meeting, and ways for evangelic in Taiwan, etc. had gradually influenced the formation of particular Christian architecture and it’s usages in Tainan area. This thesis attempts to find out the factors and courses of development of Tainan Christian Presbyterian Church during the process of changing. The author will present the development of the structural volume and spaces of the architecture of Christian Presbyterian Church, and looking into the similarities and differences between theological point of view and believer’s attitude under the physical environment. Eight churches in Tainan has selected to investigate and to analyze, by concluding cases with their development of composition of buildings, spaces and forms for meeting from the establishment of these eight churches. This thesis has investigated first, how changes of evangelical tactic and meeting types influenced the usage of church spaces, and second, how changes of spaces influence the sacred atmosphere of worship service after that. Finally, the author has also analyzed and to conclude these factors which cause the variation. Due to the radical changes of the whole society, the church faces the conflict and conversion among functions and forms. Modern churches must carry some functions such as evangelical, education, service, care, etc. at the same time. Mixing with the functions of essence and situation has caused different use of forms of space unlike the simple function that used to be in the past, it is obviously observed that functional and ceremonial space will be switch used between the two in building-like churches. The greatest issue that has to be faced is that how to extend the sacred route under this two different kinds of form of spaces nowadays. The Christian Presbyterian Church changes in time, there have developed different thinking directions toward theological point of view and interpretations of faith so that the form of space is widely different from the past. When churches are expected to contain multi function while remain its’ initial sacred essence, the holy and custom issues of churches is no more a serious subject as it was. With the aspect of time, this thesis wishes to take evangelical tactic, meeting type, and theological point of view of Christian Presbyterian Church that preached into Taiwan as basic materials; with spatial aspect, the author has investigated the form of space and its’ using condition of modern church buildings. And deeply investigate the factors that cause variation, and to present the development of the modernized course of the southern Christian Presbyterian Church architecture in Southern Taiwan.
