When Taiwan put into TFT-LCD production, Japan and Korea had take the lead, therefore in the early time, no matter in technology, the quantity of output or market share, Taiwan could not compare with Japan and Korea. But in 2005, Taiwan has lead Korea and Japan in the quantity of output, market share gross profit, and lead the whole world become the first in the world.
Country play an important role in the process of the establish of the TFT-LCD industry. First, because of Taiwan's advancement in semiconductor that makes TFT-LCD can Mass Production after the technological transformation from Japan. Second, Taiwan's abundant capital market makes industrialists can invest a great number of money at TFT-LCD. At last, we will discuss the connection between government organization and industry, and Japan trying to realize how can Taiwan's TFT-LCD industry can rise abruptly in 6 years.
In the development of TFT-LCD industry, Japan has got through the crisis of finance and the pressure from its competition, Korea. Between 1995 to 2000, in order to contend with Korea's mass production, Japan transfer the technology to Taiwan and get the resale royalty to develop the new technology. Although state don't play an active role in TFT-LCD industry, but we can find the importance of state's role. The reason why Taiwan's industries put hundred billion into TFT-LCD industry, first, Taiwan has advancement in semiconductor, second Taiwan has great demend in personal computer market, third, Japan would transfer technology of Mass Production, final, Taiwan has abundant capital.
