Summary:碩士 === 國立暨南國際大學 === 教育政策與行政學系 === 95 === This research is aimed to examine the decision-making capacity of principals of senior high school, vocational high school and special education school in Taiwan. The study begins with some document analyses and survey on theories to build up its framework. Then the “decision-making capability scale” proposed by Robbins (1991) is applied for the analysis of the “questionnaire for the contemporary principals of senior high school / vocational high school in Taiwan.” The participants of this study are 326 principals in senior high school, vocational high school and special education school in Taiwan. 326 questionnaires in total are issued and 277 valid questionnaires are reclaimed. The valid rate is 84.97%. The result of the questionnaires is dealt with SPSS software, its major statistical techniques including frequency distribution, percentage and chi-square test. The major conclusions are as follows: 1. Most principals are males; there is no significant difference in the decision-making capability with regard to their sex. 2. Most principals are aged 50-59; there is no significant difference in the decision-making capability with regard to their age. 3. Most principals initiate their job as such from 45 to 54; it is a tendency that new principals become younger and younger. 4. Most principals hold the post less than 5 years; there is no significant difference in the decision-making capability with regard to their seniority. 5. Most principals hold Master or Ph D degree; there is no significant difference in the decision-making capability with regard to their academic background. 6. Most principals are Taiwanese; there is no significant difference in the decision-making capability with regard to their ethnic identity. 7. Most principals serve in senior high schools and vocational high schools; there is no significant difference in the decision-making capability with regard to the types of their schools. 8. Most principals serve in medium- and large-scale schools; there is no significant difference in the decision-making capability with regard to the scale of their schools. 9. Most principals do not belong to any political party. 10. Most principals expect to hold their job as such for 5-8 years. 11. Most principals regard the period of 5-8 years as the ideal term of office. 12. In general, all the principals have good decision-making capability. Finally, the researcher draws its conclusion and offers some suggestions for the educational administration institutions, senior high school / vocational high school principals, and future researchers.
