Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立彰化師範大學 === 輔導與諮商學系所 === 95 === The purposes of this research were to explore the conflict and coping process of the inter-nation couples. Qualitative approach and paired research methods were used to interview four inter-nation couples in Taiwan, whose husbands are Taiwanese but wives are from Southeast Asia. The analysis of the data was based on the approach of grounded theory. The process of the research was to interview and to analyze by turns. Each couple was interviewed three times. The research focused on the context and transition of marital conflict, coping patterns of marital conflict and the critical factors during the changing processes of coping patterns, and changing reasons of marital conflict of couple’s recognition. The research data were analyzed by family system theory. Furthermore, the results were interpreted by marital power perspective. The major findings are summarized as the following: 1. Issues of marital conflict (1) The inter-nation couples faced more adaptive challenges and the foreign female spouses endured more demands in the process of localization. (2) Gender differences can be seen in conflict issues, including division of labor in households and families, habits in leisure time, parenting styles, the alteration of living resources, the economic capability, values of expenditures, and attitudes toward making friends. (3) There are probable differences of conflict issues from different processes of marriage formation. Those couples who knew each other by themselves may have the conflict issue in child education, while those who knew each other by marriage agency may have the relationship conflict between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law. 2. Marital conflicts in copying patterns and the critical factors (1)The conflict copying patterns varied according to different conflict developmental stages. (2)The experiences of success or breakdown would be transferred and diffused to all conflict issues. (3)The changing processes of copying patterns in different conflict issues were similar. (4)The changing processes of copying patterns in different conflict issues existed the same critical factors. (5)In the conflict relationship, emotion experience and conflict coping stratagem interacted each other. (6)Gender differences can be seen in conflict copying patterns. The husband took authoritative stratagems and the wife took stratagems of submitting and adjusting to her spouse. (7)In the process of conflict relationship, the power of husband and wife was different under different social position, family status, personal background and so on. 3. The status and changing reasons of marital conflict transition (1)The changing reasons do not belong to one conflict issue, and all factors interacted each other. (2)The changing reasons for couple’s perception included two kinds of conditions: the situations disappeared and continuing existence in conflict status. For the conflict conditions continuing to exist, the coping strategies including adjustment of one’s self, the change of spouse, and the affection of external factors or conditions. (3)”Internal comprehension and adjustment of one’s self” are important factors for couple’s perception. In additioin, this research found some features in marital power perspective: 1. The theory of resources in cultural context was more suitable to explain the relationship of marital power in the results. The gender relationship of patriarchy and fluidity of power under differences of resources can be seen in the interaction of relationship between husband and wife. 2. The relationship between competition and cooperation of marital power can be seen in the processes of coping with marital conflict. The relationship of marital power includes two features: a). husbands would like to maintain the power of patriarchy and wives would like to argue vigorously on the basis of reason; b). under the awareness of their relationship, couples can negotiate and cooperate with each other. Finally, in addition to the above results and discussions, the research also proposes several suggestions to research process, counseling professionals, and future researches.
