碩士 === 國立花蓮教育大學 === 鄉土文化研究所 === 95 === By the method of qualitative studying, including the close-up observation and individual interviews, this article addresses users’ sense of aesthesia about the reuse of Japanese-style historical buildings as restaurants. Not only focusing on the building structure itself as the old approach/method does, is the subject also analyzing the connection and the influence of the occupants’ sense perception and the obsolete buildings. Today, many historical buildings in Hualien have been kept and renew for the unique historical symbolization. These old Japanese-style buildings being upgraded and upholstered as restaurants retain many meaningful memories and stories of habitants’ live through giving consumers strong sensory satisfaction of vision. Those memories and stories may have only little significance, but become the main power force in hanging over the renewal of Japanese-style resident space.
