It is hoped that the results and conclusion of this study will serve as a reference for education authorities and community universities to improve the self-directed learning readiness of community university students and their learning satisfaction. The study utilizes the questionnaire to be filled in by the research subjects who are students of community universities in Kaohsiung County. The survey instrument is: “The questionnaire of self-directed learning readiness and learning satisfaction of community university students in Kaohsiung County,” and the contents of the questionnaires are: “Personal background”, “Scale of self-directed learning readiness” and “Scale of learning satisfaction.” The total number of questionnaires was 900 and the number of effective questionnaires was 698. The percentage of the effective questionnaires was 77.6%. The data available from the surveys was analyzed by description statistics, independent samples t-tests, One-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation analysis and stepwise multiple regression. The major results of this study are described as follows: 1. The self-directed learning readiness of the community university students is quite high. The score ranking is followed by self-regulated learning, learning motivation, love of learning, self-understanding and active learning. 2. The learning satisfaction of the community university students is highly positive. The score ranking is followed by learning environment, teaching, course contents and active admin. service. 3. The self-directed learning readiness of the community university students varies according to different personal backgrounds. 4. The learning satisfaction of the community university students varies according to different personal backgrounds. 5. The self-directed learning readiness of the community university students is positively related to their learning satisfaction. 6. The levels of “self-understanding” and “self-regulated learning” of the self-directed learning readiness of the community university students permit anticipation of their learning satisfaction. According to the research results, the proposals are given as follows: 1.To education authorities (1)To achieve the goal of sustainable development of community universities by improving knowledge of instructional leadership on the part of the leaders of community universities. (2)Make the students life-long learners by demanding that community universities reinforce their self-directed learning readiness. 2.To community universities (1)Improve and transform students’ self-directed learning readiness and their ability of self-regulated learning. (2)Continually improve learning satisfaction by reinforcing instructional skills, teaching content and administrative service. (3)Respect the students with low learning satisfaction and actively map out a plan to meet their learning needs. (4)Provide students with counseling on self-directed learning to develop their self-directed learning ability. 3.To students of community universities (1)Be positive concerning the self-directed learning ability and continue life-long studying. (2)Establish good interpersonal relations and use the resources to overcome the difficulties of learning. (3)Improve the ability to actively participate in learning, and be a happy lifelong learner. 4.To future studies (1)Include more variations in the research contents to obtain more findings and results from different aspects. (2)Include a qualitative perspective to increase the depth and range of the results. (3)Extend the research subjects to increase the results.
