It tries to analyze the degree of satisfaction of the student teachers towards the change of the educational placement system as well as compare the variables of their degree of satisfaction. On the basis of the results, the study investigates the placement guiding strategies to meet the needs of current educational situation and to provide some suggestions to the teacher-training institutions and the education administrative authorities. In addition, the study also helps to enhance teachers’ professional beliefs. The self-administrated questionnaire, “Questionnaire for the degree of job satisfaction during placement among the student teachers in elementary schools in Pingtung County”, was adopted in this study as the main research tool. In order to obtain a further understanding of the current implementation of the policy of placement assistant, follow-up interviews were conducted on the basis of the results analysis of the questionnaires. The research methods of this study include document analysis, questionnaires, and interviews. The research instruments consist of the “job satisfaction questionnaires, placement policy questionnaires, and the personal background information form”. A total of 161 questionnaires were distributed to the student teachers who have experienced the old placement policy. The return rate reached 96%, with 150 valid questionnaires and 5 invalid. Another 60 questionnaires were distributed to the student teachers who have experienced the new placement policy, and all of these questionnaires were returned valid. Among these respondents, 6 were invited to participate in the follow-up interviews. During the stage that the student teachers undertake the job placement, the teacher-training institutions develop their professional knowledge. The practical job placement intends to enhance and develop the professional knowledge, teaching skills, and the teaching ability of the student teachers. This stage plays a crucial role in deciding the quality of these future teachers. According to the findings and conclusions of this study, the following suggestions are proposed. It is hoped that these suggestions can be useful references for the education administrative authorities, the student teachers, and the research in the future. 1. Suggestions for the education administrative authorities: a. Provide strategies of educational placement to enhance the degree of job satisfaction of student teachers in elementary schools: In order to develop professional, well-trained teachers with capability, the education administrative authorities should arrange appropriate placement environment for the student teachers. b. Properly plan the career development for the student teachers to increase their motivation in job during placement: I suggest that the education administrative authorities plan carefully the for the issues related to the development of student teachers, such as their career planning, time management, and the preparation for the teachers’ recruitment exam. 2. Suggestions for the teacher training institutions: a. Ensure that the policy of placement assistant for the student teachers is fully implemented: I suggest that both the placement advisors and the schools of placement care more about the student teachers. b. Put emphasis on both the theoretical and practical aspects in developing professional teachers: I suggest that the teacher training institutions cooperate intensively with the education administrative authorities and the schools of placement. The student teachers should be the center in the promotion of the quality of the educational placement. To develop capable teachers as well as facilitate teachers’ future career in the workplace, appropriate educational placement plan should be carefully designed and proposed. 3. Suggestions for the schools of placement: a. Ensure that the assistant group functions to enhance the effect of the placement: I suggest that the schools of placement ensure that the assistant group functions so as to increase the effect of the placement. b. Establish a guidance group for the teachers’ recruitment exam to meet the needs of the student teachers: I suggest that the schools of place-ment meet the needs of the student teachers by setting up a guidance group for the teachers’ recruitment exam to substantially help the student teachers face the challenges in the workplace in the future. 4. Suggestions for the student teachers in the elementary schools: a. Select the school of placement prudentially to enhance the effects of placement: To enhance the effects of placement, the student teachers are suggested to gather information and make a prudent decision in choosing a school for placement. In order to build up a good found-ation, the student teachers should try to look for schools with proper education ideas and those which can provide adequate support. b. Demonstrate professional enthusiasm to match the implementation with expectation: The student teachers should go through professional training. Before becoming professional teachers, they should show their enthusiasm in teaching so as to put into practice what they expect to. c. Maintain good interpersonal relationship to build up mutual supporting network: Good interpersonal relationship plays an important role in the network of mutual support. Through the training of maintaining good interpersonal relationship during the educational placement, the student teachers are able to establish the network of gaining profess-sional support. d. Develop life-long service educational ideas: I suggest that the student teachers actively undertake continuing and extension studies to broaden their visions and enhance critical thinking. By taking part in various in-service training, they will be able to fulfill the aim of life-long learning. Accordingly, they can complete the training that they plan and develop life-long service educational ideas.
