This study explores collegiate taekwondo athletes' awareness of their coach's leadership behavior. This study's subjects are the 320 athletes accepted by The 95th Academic Year’s Collegiate Athletic Meeting. This study combines both quantitative research and qualitative research. Quantitative research: Surveys will be conducted, and the research instrument is “Sport Leadership Behavior Evaluation”. The five scales of coach leadership behavior with different background variables will be tested and checked by t-test and one-way multivariate analysis of variance, (MANOVA) to identify the differences. Further comparison will be done for any findings with significant differences. The standard deviation for significant differences in this study is α=.05. Qualitative research: The researcher will conduct prior readings of relevant publications and research, and combined with the researcher's experience in taekwondo sport, questions will be designed by the researcher. This study will be conducted in semi-contractual interviews. The research resulted in the following: 1. For the awareness of collegiate taekwondo athletes toward the taekwondo coaches’ leadership behavior, the highest score falls in the “Training and Instructional Behavior” category, while the lowest score is in “Autocratic Behavior”. After analysis, we find that the average scores of “Training and Instructional Behavior” and “Positive Behavior” are higher than those of the other three variables. Therefore, we can conclude athletes have the most awareness about “Training and Instructional Behavior” and “Positive Behavior” but the least awareness about “Autocratic Behavior”. 2. There is a distinctive difference between the male and female taekwondo athletes’ awareness in Overall Coaching Leadership Behavior, especially in “Training and Instructional Behavior”, “Democratic Behavior” ,“Social Support Behavior” and “Positive Behavior”. One of the reasons for the distinctive difference between the male and female taekwondo athletes’ awareness might be because of the conscious effort made by female athletes in distancing themselves from their coaches in order to avoid unnecessary contact. 3. There is no significant difference in the awareness of taekwondo athletes toward the Coaching Leadership Behavior, regardless of colleges (public or private). 4. There is no significant difference in the awareness of taekwondo athletes toward the Coaching Leadership Behavior, regardless of division differences (Division A or Division B). 5. There is no significant difference in the awareness of taekwondo athletes in different years of training toward the Coaching Leadership Behavior. However, a distinctive difference exists in “Training and Instructional Behavior” and “Positive Behavior.” The results of a comparative study show a distinct difference between the “Under 2 years of training” (greater awareness) and “Over 7 years of training” (less awareness) groups. Senior athletes tend to question the coaches ability, while junior athletes are more obedient.
