碩士 === 國立屏東教育大學 === 視覺藝術學系碩士班 === 95 === The application of mythology opens up the horizon of creativity; it is not only enriched men’s imaginations but also achieved the multi elements of the creative works. During the Renaissance period, men were especially interested in studying the history and literature of Greeks and of Romans and they considered the spirit of science humanity as their models to revive the Renaissance of the classical culture. Greek mythology has caught an extensive attention and a great interest on the paintings of Greek mythology motifs and it has become the painting ideas. This research used images and style analysis as the research method, and it started with the mythography in the painting. It is the study on the plant images representation of western mythography between the fifteenth and the seventeenth centuries, and there are four main research points: 1. Understanding the western mythology paintings from the fifteenth to the seventeenth centuries and the meanings and subject matters of the mythography used in the paintings. 2. Understanding the western mythology paintings of the fifteenth to the seventeenth centuries and the styles of the mythography representation. 3. Exploring the western mythology paintings from the fifteenth to the seventeenth centuries and the differences between the meanings and subject matters of the mythography used in the paintings. 4. Exploring the western mythology paintings from the fifteenth to the seventeenth centuries and the differences of the styles of the mythography representation. This article is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is preface; it explains the motive and objective of the research, the method of research and literature discussion, the scope and the restriction of the research, and the definition of the research terminology and so forth. The second chapter is about the research of the origin, the development and the application of mythology. The third chapter discusses the symbolism of the plants and the application learning, through the study of the paintings to analyze the representation and meaning of the plants in the paintings. The fourth chapter is mainly about the style discussions and comparison of the paintings and to sum up the painting styles from different periods and study their differences. The fifth chapter is the conclusion of the characteristics of integrated periods and the differences in comparison.
