The aim of this thesis was to estimated the different treatment efficiency of inducing estrus in the bitches. Eighty-five mongrel bitches were conducted to evulated the efficiency of different treatments for shortening the interestrous interval and the physiological responses, and 10 spontaneous estrus bitches were used for control in studyⅠ. Ovarian status of the individual bitch was determined based on the profile of the vaginal cytology. The bitches in anestrus were treated by estrogen (Estrone; E1, n=30). When the bitches were in diestrus, they were treated by prostaglandin F2α (PGF2α)(n=15), or prolactin release-inhibiting hormone (PRIH; Bromocriptine; Bromo)(n=15) alone, or by PGF2α combined with bromocriptin (PGF2α+Bromo) PRIH (n=25). The interval from treatment initiated to estrus exhibited, the physiological responses, including daily changes of vaginal cytology, vaginal vestibule color, vulva volume, vaginal impedance and the rates of successful induction into estrus were recorded. In study Ⅱ, changes of the serum progesterone levels in different treatment groups were monitered, and the difference between the bitches successfully and not-successfully induced into estrus by various treatments was compared. Also, progesterone profile of the 10 spontaneous estrus bitches was used for control. Results showed that the bitches successfully induced by our treatments into estrus exhibited the same physiological responses of vaginal vestibule color, vulva volume, vaginal impedance and the changes of vaginal superficial cells, the duration of the proestrus (7~8 d) and estrus (8~9 d), and also the litter size as that of the spontaneously estrous bitches, but not the responses of the non-successful bitches (study Ⅰ). When PGF2α or Bromo alone, or PGF2α+Bromo used for inducing of estrus in the diestrous bitches, the successfully rates were 33, 67 and 72%, respectively. Estrone (E1) could be used for inducing of estrus in the anestrous bitches, and the 90% succeeding rate was obtained. The succeeding rate in anestrous group was significantly higher than the diestrous groups (90% vs. 56%; p<0.05). In the diestous groups, Bromo alone, or PGF2α+Bromo treatment group had higher succeeding rate than PGF2α alone group (67, 72 vs. 33%; p<0.05). In the E1 group, the duration of treatment initiated to estrus was 13 days. Among the treatments of PGF2α alone or Bromo alone, and PGF2α+Bromo in the diestrous grrups, the intervals to onset of estrus were significantly different (6, 18, vs. 19) (studyⅠ). Induction into estrus in the bitches in diestrus by PGF2α or Bromo alone, or by PGF2α+Bromo, the progesterone concentrations declined to basal levels of about 2 ng/mL following treatments in the successfully induced bitches, and increased gradually soon after the treatments ceased. However, the progesterone concentrations elevated to a significantly high level (10 ng/mL) immediately after the PGF2α alone treatment ceased or maintained in basal levels in the not-successfully groups (Bromo and PGF2α+Bromo treatment)(studyⅡ). When the estrone was used for inducing of estrus in the anestrous bitches, the progesterone concentration gradually increased soon after the treatment ceased in successful group, but not in the not-successful group. Overall the two studies in this thesis, it is concluded that PGF2α or bromocriptine alone, or the combination of PGF2α and bromocriptine could be used for inducing of estrus in the diestrous bitches, and estrone could be used for inducing of estrus in the anestrous bitches. The bitches successfully induced into estrus exhibited the same physiological responses and reproductive traits, also the progesterone profles were the same as that of the spontaneously estrous bitches.
