The records of a designated system consist of data that show the current status and history of the protected environment, such as temperature, relative humidity, and illumination. For this system, data can be accessed via the Internet. The system also has a remote monitoring function that uses an IP camera and sends an alarm when certain warning criteria are reached. The hardware of the system consists of a PC installed with a control card and various sensors. The monitoring program was developed by Visual Basic, which uses voltage signals to calculate temperature, relative humidity and illumination conditions with a calibrated formula. Data collected by the sensors were stored in a MySQL database and utilized Short Message Service (SMS) over the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) to send warning messages to the user’s mobile phone. The functions of this system can be operated on an Internet page processed by PHP. Prototypes of the system have been set up in one orchid tissue culture laboratory and in an anthurium farm.
