Abstract
Ancient Greeks concept, “epimeleia heautou”, can be broadly translated as “taking care of oneself”. To take care of oneself was at the core of Socrates parrhesiastic role. Different from code-oriented moralities, “technologies of the self” could help us to enhance ethics-oriented moralities, which could raise people to become morally responsible, self-disciplined citizens. The main purpose of this dissertation is to probe implications for teachers’ curriculum consciousness by rethinking on Foucault’s “l'esthétique de l'existence”. According to Foucault’s “l'esthétique de l'existence”, the author discussed fourteen implications for teachers’ curriculum consciousness which included the Dionysian spirit, self-creating, stylization, originality, asceticism, abstinence, individual ethics, self organization, crossing borders, subjective agency, to depart from the classics and rebel against orthodoxy, deconstructionism, disconnection and the death of man. In conclusions, Foucault's “l'esthétique de l'existence” could help teachers to develop personal consciousness for curriculum. Thus by rethinking on Foucault’s “l'esthétique de l'existence”, we will get more implications for teachers’ curriculum consciousness.
Key words: aesthetics of existence(l'esthétique de l'existence), curriculum consciousness, Michel Foucault, take care of yourself(souci de soi-même/ epimeleia heautou), technologies of the self
