This research seeks to scrutinize transformational leadership and paternalistic leadership—two very different leadership style—within the same sample, so as to analyze how teachers of similar background comprehend the difference and correlation among presidential leadership, paternalistic leadership, and school effectiveness. The method of this research was based upon investigative organon. Altogether 1298 elementary school teachers in Taitung County were designated as study population, within which around 457 members were selected randomly as samples. The statistic analysis applies percentage, one-way ANOVA, and regression analysis. The results of this study show that “benevolence and moral” in paternalistic leadership could best predict school effectiveness. Average schools show more awareness toward presidential “inspiration and consideration,” while rural schools show more awareness toward presidential “authoritarianism.” School effectiveness scores the highest in terms of “parent/teacher and teaching,” while “student learning performance” scores the lowest. Presidential leadership that makes use of “benevolence and moral” is related to school effectiveness in terms of “work and environment.” The results of this study would provide elementary school presidents and education administrations with useful information to promote administrative leadership and upgrade school effectiveness.
