碩士 === 國立臺東大學 === 兒童文學研究所 === 96 === Kipling’s Jungle book is composed eight chapters including “Mowgli’s Brother”, “Kaa’s Hunting”, “ Tiger, Tiger”, “How Fear Came”, “Letting in the Jungle”, “The King’s Ankus”, “Red Dog” and “The Spring Running”, with Mowgli as the leading role. The research tried to analyze animal formation and implication as magical factors that influence boy scouts, make the work a foothold on visual media, and sell well for a long time. The major objectives are to attract the attention here in Taiwan, and also to make it a creative pattern for learning. The thesis is consisted of five chapters. Chapter one is introduction. Chapter two is divided into three sections with the author’s biography, and the process of his writing for the Jungle Book and other works. Chapter three described animals through Kipling’s eyes with fifteen animals and their social relations discussed. Chapter four described “we” through animals’ eyes in which plant-eating animals, carnivorous animals and flying animals view human beings differently. Chapter five concluded the study as following: Kipling personified animals in his Jungle Book to uncover courage, honest, love and freedom. His idea was largely from his childhood memory. He obtained materials from local resources and combined the legend with reality. It can be found from the study of Kipling’s Jungle books that it is essential for the writer to have background of the novel at hand, have feeling to write and also flexibly apply technique of personification and symmetry.
