The transmission characteristics have been studied among the back to back transmission, the 25km and 35km standard single-mode fiber, the 40km TrueWave fiber and 40km LEAF fiber of the non-zero dispersion shifted fiber. The dispersion effect on the transmission in the two special fibers is also studied. Finally, an attempt is made to inject the fiber laser output into Fabry-Perot laser diode, and to study the direct modulation effect. Several experimental structures are shown in this thesis, including a ring active harmonic mode-locking structure, a ring rational active harmonic mode-locking structure, a ring passive mode-locking structure with electro-optic modulatior, and a ring passive mode-locking structure without electro-optic modulatior. And, we also discuss the influence of the use of a semiconductor optical amplifier on the ring passive mode-locking structure without electro-optic modulator, and compare its characteristics with that of a tunable semiconductor laser source.
