碩士 === 國立臺灣科技大學 === 設計研究所 === 95 === “Design” is a manner to visualize and substantiate the anticipated purpose and concept through the beautification of meaning, content and technology of Fine Art. The essence and spirits of design are through the expression of the artistic images and plans of initial economic construction activities. The design is the action of creativity with certain purposes while the fine art emphasizes on the individual emotional expression, and both of them are necessary for existence and complementary to each other. The designers in early stage in Taiwan are mostly in the background of fine art or relevant fields. With the on-going evolvement, it gradually develops the current environment and circumstance for design industry of Taiwan society for nowadays. After the 1970’s with the highly industrial and business development and progress in Taiwan, the relevant design activities have remarkably increased. Especially the establishment of Amoeba Design Association in 1971 has been a milestone in the development of fine art in Taiwan and it can be said to initiate the advancement of fine art in Taiwan since the 1970’s. This research is to elaborate and understand in detail the historical frame and traces, and the style of pieces of Amoeba Design Association through the collection and arrangement of literature and in-depth interviews. We expect that through this research people who have interests and would like to explore more about Taiwan Design history can understand the undeniable significance and contribution of Amoeba Design Association to Taiwan Modern Design History. “Amoeba Design Association” is the first design association established in Taiwan and is composed of the students, and it has been set up for a long time. For the current documents and literature, as far as the time of establishment is concerned, “Amoeba Design Association” is the second oldest design association merely next to the Graphic Design Association of the Republic of China. “Amoeba Design Association” is the first design association to have interaction with South Korea and Japan, and it successfully introduces the artist association in Japan and industrial fine art association in South Korea to the Graphic Design Association of the Republic of China to hold many associated exhibitions of Asian designers. The association also proceeded to the academic interaction of China with engraving painting afterwards. They indeed dedicate themselves to the great contribution of the range of visibility of the role of Taiwan Design in Asian design field. The frequent exhibitions of Amoeba Design Association in 1970 to 1990 also influenced the other fine art design groups and the students of fine art filed at the same period of time. The form of exhibition improves and inspires the design concepts to students and also provides the different way of thinking and perceptions in such a relatively conservative design environment and circumstances. The creation and piece of “Amoeba Design Association” after the 1980’s mainly focus on engraving paintings. They use the expression of engraving paintings and add the unique creativity of designers to upgrade to another level in engraving paintings of Taiwan. This innovation of design style of engraving paintings is in the process of interaction with Asian countries in design field; it not only expands their own creativity outside Taiwan, but also extends the design of engraving paintings of Taiwan to Mainland China and brings the brand new concept and color matching to conservative Mainland China. The purpose of historical research is to record what has been done and what happened in the past. It won’t lose its value through time changes, but becomes more valuable and precious while time goes by. This research is to expect that through the research results more and more people are still required to get involved into the collection of relevant literature of Taiwan design history, and our descendants will be able to understand the design environment and historical background at that time.
