Summary: | 碩士 === 中國文化大學 === 新聞研究所 === 95 === In May, 2005, actor Min-Ran Ni committed suicide. Taiwan’s media took plenty of time to report this event. This kind of reporting made a lot of people feel upset and some people even took their life consequently.
The contagious effect of media reporting is an important issue. Although media reporting is not a direct reason related to suicide, a lot of studies had confirmed that “media reporting” has an effect similar to “pulling the trigger” in the suicide process.
This study used survey to understand teenagers in Taipei area and to see the media’s effect. The result reveals that degree of melancholy, suicide reporting involvement, suicide attitude and act have significant correlation. Teenagers who have high degree of melancholy and high-involvement in suicide reporting are easier affected by suicide reporting. They are more likely to feel upset and even to find a way to kill themselves.
