So, “what apparel represents Taiwan the best?” Such question certainly wakes a person from their dream! To establish the concept of “Shin-Sa”, it not only helps to display apparel, but to start a movement and to confirm the concept of minority. It is a great and meaningful “semiology movement”. It would impact everyone who grew up, was educated and lived in Taiwan, as well as to gain a better understanding, building self-confidence and improve Taiwan’s international image. Taiwan is made up of many diverse cultures. With the concerns of many political taboos, it is surely a difficult task to design a “Shin-Sa” that would be accepted by others. Time is needed to build up a consensus amongst people. I was inspired by many host countries’ traditional apparel from the past “APEC” event, as well as the comparisons of historical documents. As a researcher I concluded that the best design to represent Taiwanese apparel needs to be based upon three elements: culture, etiquette and environment. It is constructed according to the evaluation index. This research is mainly based on in-depth interviews and surveys. The interviews were with politicians and celebrities from the textile industry, show business, sport, culture, corporations, education as well as famous designers, who in the long run often attend official international events. Taiwanese apparel should consist of certain uniqueness, conditions and special meaning for both Taiwanese and international events. Based on the researcher’s analysis of interview materials, 9 design indexes are concluded from three elements. By using the above mentioned operation procedures to identify and use a Japanese Kimono as an example, further establish “Shin-Sa” survey. The semiology from this realistic survey would suggest the feasibility of Taiwanese national apparel. According to my research, in terms of “environmental issues”, the focus of dye technology and the anticipation of apparel help to lead the direction for the basis of “Shin-Sa”. In addition, the development of “Shin-Sa” movement needs efforts over a long period of time. As the researcher I would like to give 5 suggestions: 1. there should be continuous communication with Taiwanese regarding Shin-Sa. 2. Apparel design competition is one of the ways to promote Shin-Sa. 3. The common consensus of Shin-Sa needs to be built through long term etiquette. 4. Shin-Sa needs to gain common consensus through diversity. 5. There is a need of a group of committee judges for Shin-Sa design competition. Key words: Taiwan’s Shin Sa, Shin-Sa, APEC, Semiology, index. 呂清夫 洪藝真 2007 學位論文 ; thesis 169 zh-TW
