Although Miyazawa Kenji died in the prime of his life, 37 years old, he left behind many works. Because he was a nameless writer, most his works were not able to be published before his death. However, Miyazawa Kenji never gave up his writing. Even in his dying bed, he wrote down the well-known poem, “No Fear to Wind, No Fear to Rain,” which is still spread today. Most Kenji’s works are short stories, the epic work is quite rare. But the focus of this paper, “the Biography of Gusukobudori,” is a longer work. This work is unique because it has two predecessors. The first version is “the Biography of Penenenene-nenemu,” which later was revised to be “the biography of Gusukonbudori.” The last revision, “the Biography of Gusukobudori,” was published at Children’s Literature in 1931, which we are familiar with today. In Miyazawa Kenji’s works, one work with various versions is not rare phenomenon. The reason why he revised his works and the meaning of how the works changed are the focus in this thesis.
