It includes not only monitoring system circuits of each individual host, but managing many kinds of hardware and software components outside a host. IPMI helps system administrators to monitor status of various components through networks, such as CPU operation, fan speed, system temperature, voltage, and so on.
The general functions provided by IPMI are general purposes for most server equipments, but not for some special needs. In order to fulfill the special needs of different equipments, OEM commands of IPMI are proposed to be designed by different companies to enhance the original functions.
The main purpose of this paper is to develop the following three functions of IPMI OEM commands to provide additional values and advanced management of server equipments.
1.The capability of instant monitoring: It includes monitoring hardware sensors and system operation, and providing their information to system administrators instantly.
2.The capability of automatic control: It includes automatic controls of System-Fail, Smart Fan, as well as auto shutdown and reset. This function deals with system events, and sends their information automatically.
3.The database function: It keeps long-term records of hardware sensors and system operation. System administrators can use these records to further manage more precise controls by customers’needs.
