Abstract
This project was conduct research on the set of spring up constructed wetland module including a free water system with subsurface flow system in one tank. It was base on the domestic wastewater treatment in school campus as well as wastewater from a small community. It has the advantages of less equipment required and less operating cost. Furthermore, its hydraulic capacity can be enlarged rapidly by connecting the modulation mode in parallel or in series. Experimental results shown that both chemical oxygen demand (COD) and biological oxygen demand (BOD5) of wastewater indicate removal rate of 62.0% and 78.3%, respectively, after a 3-day retention time period. The amount of nitrate, nitrite, orthophosphate, total coli form, and suspended solid (SS) in the wastewater reduced to 80.5%, 95.0%, 85.7%, 95.2%, and 94.7%, respectively. After a 6-day retention time period, the amount of COD, BOD5, nitrate, nitrite, orthophosphate, total coli form, and SS in the wastewater were reduced to 80.1%, 86.8%, 92.0%, 96.1%, 94.8%, 96.2%, and 97.4%, respectively. The water quality of the effluent from the constructed wetland modules A and B were found between the levels of “Class 1” and “Class 2” according to the regulation required BOD5, PO43-, -P and SS standards of Taiwan EPA. The water quality of the effluent from the constructed wetland modules by series C with B was found between the levels of “Class 1”.
