One is the development of a mathematical model for the dynamics of pneumatic control valves. The mathematical model will help us in better understanding transient response of control valves. It also forms a basis in studying the pressure dynamics of a piping system and facilitates the formulation of control law. Another one is to investigate the feasibility of a digital-electronic type valve positioner in replacing the combination of E/P(electro-pneumatic transducer), pneumatic positioner and valve position transmitter. The developing of this valve positioner includes software and hardware tasks. In software, a GUI (Graphical User Interface) program is written in PC end. In hardware, the major work is to develop the body and the control circuits of the electronic valve. Finally, the valve positioner and the pneumatic control valve are used in the pressure control of fluid in a piping system to test their functions. All in all, one part of this thesis is to provide a strict discussion about the properties of a pneumatic control valve. Anther one is a originative implementation of mechatronic. The digital-electronic type valve positioner has shown its feasibility through the proof of this thesis. If the digital-electronic type valve positioner is developed successfully, it will reveal a changing path of valve control from a mechanical-pneumatic system to an electronic-digital system. The product will also deliver many benefits to the processes using it and, in the meantime, upgrade the technology level of the valve industry in our country.
