Three purposes are as follows: 1. To investigate the process of the learning by using instant messenger into social studies. 2. To evaluate the impact of learning effects by using instant messenger into social studies in elementary schools. 3. To understand students’ attitudes and feelings about the learning by using instant messenger. The objects for this research are the fifteen forth-grade students of an elementary school in Taoyuan City. Qualitative methods were applied in this research with the help of quantitative analysis. The process of the learning by using instant messenger into social studies were used as qualitative instruments, and various data such as teaching journals, questionnaires and interviews during the research process for cross comparison and analysis. Moreover, the results of pre-survey of students’ learning attitude toward social studies and learning achievement of social studies are used as quantitative research instruments. As a result, four major findings are provided in this research: First, the hortative strategy can enhance learning of students. Counteractions for technical problems during the on-going activities will be provided in this research. Second, students had better learning attitude of the social studies and higher learning achievement of the social studies. Third, student got high preferences toward the learning by using instant messenger. Fourth, students consider that the interaction between classmates is more convenient by using instant messenger.
