The pneumatic nail tool invention provides with advantages on effort-saving and easy operation, so it has been extensively used for professional cabin construction and decoration project applications, instead of manual hand tool –hammer. However, the pneumatic tool still has serious noise pollution problem which will not only affect operator’s working efficiency but also debase quality of the working environment. Moreover, it will also cause injury to the operator after long-term usage. In fact, the literature is deficient regarding the pneumatic nail tool noise pollution problem. Therefore, we designated that the pneumatic nail tool as the object of this research and expected we could probe into the main noise sources and find out some effective methods to reduce the noise through the experiment. There are two kinds of noise from pneumatic nail tool; one is the impact noise that comes from the piston impacting instantaneously on the bumper while firing. The other is the exhaust noise. After a nail is driven, the piston will return to its original position and at this moment the piston will also push the remaining air out from the exhaust gate. As the result the exhaust air causes the noise. The thesis investigates the influence of variation in the bumper hardness and the impact area of the piston on noise. Moreover, we also discuss the relationship between position of the absorption material and noise. Finally, by using the Taguchi Methods to discover the optimum combination; the results show that when the bumper hardness and piston impact area were 70 HSA and 114 mm2, with adding the exhaust cover and absorption material, for the optimum parameter combination and the comparison might reduce 8 dB.
