The purpose of this study is to design a specific fundus scope for living mouse, which may replace the traditional method in histology of time-consumed orbit preparation for dissection. Also it can be used to observe the retinal continuously change in longitudinal study without sacrificing the animals in traditional way. In the latter method, problems of individual differences can’t be avoided. Methods. The design of the fundus scope consists of an imaging system and an illuminating system. A ray tracing program -ZEMAX is used in this study to design and simulate the whole optical system. The imaging system consists of four lenses and a beamsplitter, the light source of the illuminator is LED, and the mice strain is C57BL/6J. Results. Images of retinal blood vessel were observed by using this fundus scope on anesthetic mouse with age of 110~140 days. The magnification and field of view of the mouse retina are about four times and 600x600 µm respectively. Conclusions. The fundus scope that has been developed can not only be applied to observe the retinal blood vessels, it can also help the related experiment in retinal research in small animals. Additionally, these images can be recorded for further comparison in similar experiments. Yin Chang 張寅 2007 學位論文 ; thesis 69 zh-TW
