碩士 === 國立雲林科技大學 === 營建工程系碩士班 === 95 === When earthquake occurs, strong ground motions often cause damage to massive structures on the ground and many people would get hurt or died. According to statistics, tens of major earthquakes have occurred in Taiwan during the last century, and more than seven thousand people have died. Among those events, five or more severe earthquakes have occurred near Chiayi City. Although there is no fault beneath Chiayi City, it usually results in severe damage to Chiayi City when earthquake caused by fault dislocation nearby occurs. Unlike typhoon or heavy rain, earthquake can not be forecasted. Therefore we can only try to reduce the loss of life and property due to earthquake in view of prevention. This study conducts earthquake simulation using TELES, analyzes the damage predictions resulting from several possible earthquake events, and then finds the regions having a higher seismic risk in Chiayi City. The results provide Chiayi City Government with reference resources for establishing the four stages of local disaster prevention and relief plan, which include Mitigation, Preparedness, Response, and Recovery. The main goal is to increase the integrated ability of disaster prevention and protection of Chiayi City Government for earthquake hazards.
