Description
Summary:碩士 === 元智大學 === 國際企業學系 === 95 === In this era of globalization, global product design and development has become one of the critical influences on the competitive strategy of multinational firms, as managers are under constant pressure to produce new and improved products faster and at lower costs. A manufacturing firm possessing design capability can appropriate the whole added-value of its products when the major value is created by design. Therefore, given the technological collaboration approach to product development, the internalization of external design capability is crucial to the manufacturing firm. In order to understand how firms successfully internalize design capability through collaboration, we choose the qualitative approach. And we selected “single case study” as the research method in order to represent a unique or extreme case. In this study, we establish the conceptual framework of knowledge internalization though collaboration. We believe that given the complexity of design capability enhances the difficulty to learn through collaboration, the adjustment of relationship between partners improves the negative outcome. Furthermore, although we investigate the case in bicycle industry, the conceptual framework can be applied in other industries that product design can influence the value of products.
