The nature of the hydrophobicity of nanoparticles seem to be the main hurdle in this task. In this thesis, we used a nearly monodispersed silver nanoparticle system, with diameters of ca. 5 nm, to focus on three main topics: (i) the development of a modified LB method, called CPSA (constant-pressure self-assembly) method, to successfully prepare a dense and large area nano-Ag Film (NAF), (ii) immobilization of such NAF on different substrates and its stability; (iii) examination on the densed NAF for several properties and applications, such as (1) SERS effect, (2) partial replacement of silver by gold to form adjoining nano-Ag/nano-Au particles, (3) the attachment of the second nanoparticle system of gold nanorods(AuNR) to impose additional properties to such NAF, and (4) the demonstration of depositing two dense films composed of sub-micrometer silica particles film and the NAF. The NAF is deposited (transferred) on top of the silica film. We demonstrated an interesting structure of such dense silica film with silver nanoparticles filling inside the void regions following the corruption of NAF .
