In these reactions, [HPO3]2- anions are pseudo-pyramidal buiding blocks to construct multi-dimensional frameworks. The self-assembly of phosphites, multidentate organic ligands and transition metal ions in the molten salts often results in novel structures that are not accessible under hydrothermal conditions. In this thesis, 4,4’-bipyridal (BPY), 12-bis(4-pyridyl)-ethane (BPE), terephthalaldehyde (TPD), and 2,2’-dipyridylamine (PDP) were examined as potential templates or ligands in such molten phosphorous acids. Here I report the synthesis and characterization of a series of organic-inorganic hybrid coordination polymers obtained under such unusual reaction conditions, namely Zn2(HPO3)2BPY (1)、Zn3(HPO3)3(HPO3H)(HBPE) (2)、Zn2(HPO3)4H2BPE (2a)、Cd(HPO3H)2BPY (3)、Cd2(HPO3H)4(BPE)2 (4)、Zn(HPO3)(HPO3H).HDPA (5)、Cd(HPO3H)2.0.09TPA and (6a) (6b:DCB、6c:DBQ).
