However, it is difficult to draw firm conclusions from these researches, because decisional guidance can not always positively enhance DSS user performance. Additionally, little existing research examines the role of cognitive style plays in determining decisional guidance’s impact. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of cognitive style on the impact of decisional guidance. Using human information processing theory as theoretical lens, a sample of 207 students from a college served as participants in a laboratory experiment that was conducted to determine the cognitive style effects on individual performance. The results show that informative-dynamic guidance outperforms suggestive-dynamic guidance in a measure of either user learning or satisfaction when user has more intuitive style. Relatively, in a measure of either user learning or satisfaction, when user has more analytical style, the results show that suggestive-dynamic guidance outperforms informative-dynamic guidance. In addition, in a measure of user satisfaction, the results show that suggestive-dynamic guidance outperforms suggestive-predefined guidance when user has more analytical style. Finally, implications and recommendations for decisional guidance research and practice are also discussed.
