This study uses “Chunghwa Telecom hostels” and employees or hostel managers as interview subjects in investigating the characteristics and orientation of hostels, in order to understand the market orientation and expected development of Chunghwa Telecom hostels. This study finds that possibilities for the future operations and improvement of Chunghwa Telecom hostels: 1. It is necessary to appropriately use the location advantages of hostels for promotional purposes in order to elevate the occupancy rate. For instance: plan for lodging by retired employees at various hostels; the promotion of short stays can fill up rooms in the off-seasons. It would also allow the retired employees to have greater understanding of local customs and culture, and the hostels could be used as centers as these guests toured nearby scenic spots. 2. Enhance the brightness and cleanliness of hostel space, in order to elevate tourist satisfaction with the hostels, and in turn elevate their willingness to stay in the hostels again. 3. Provide information on local tourist spots and dining, coordinate and interact with the local departments of tourism, and hire professionals to serve as tour guides and provide explanations. 4. Use the Chunghwa Telecom service centers to widely establish tourist consultation centers in order to promote the various hostels owned by Chunghwa Telecom. 5. Management of the hostels must be coordinated with the telecommunications business, as well as local customs, festivals, and culture in order to gain appeal. It is possible to use figurines that are telecommunications-themed or local-themed as gifts for staying at hostels; mutual promotion can lead to a win-win situation. 6. Coordinate with various local schools so that the hostels can be used by students for extracurricular activities, summer camps, or winter camps. 7. Issue “Chunghwa Telecom hostel credit cards,” allowing the accumulation of happy points by those who use the credit card while staying at the hostels. The accumulated points can then be used to trade for souvenirs, and discounts for lodging should be provided as part of items that can be traded for happy points. 8. Establishment of a website for VIP members of the hostels. 9. Cooperative strategic alliances should be formed between senior management of the hostels and local humanist and cultural industries; there should be accommodation with the local environment to establish hostel centers that belong to local culture. 10. It is possible to design a software suite that utilizes LDAP, so employees can enjoy themselves wherever they go; the Chunghwa Telecom identification card would allow them to stay at the hostels, and costs would directly be deducted from their payroll accounts. This is convenient and time-saving. 11. Provide lodging at the hostels owned by Chunghwa Telecom to outstanding clients in order to ensure customer loyalty.
