碩士 === 長庚大學 === 企業管理研究所 === 96 === Due to unique governmental regulation in Taiwan, cable television industry has recently experienced conglomeration and ownership change. How the operational efficiency of a cable television company related to its owner as local or foreign becomes an interesting question to answer. In this research, the technique of data envelopment analysis (DEA) is adopted to assess the productivity of 61 cable television companies in Taiwan during years of 2005 and 2006. Mann-Whitney statistics is then tested on the technical efficiency between two groups of conglomerate versus independent operators and foreign managers versus local ones. Correlation between operational performance and profitability is also carried out. This study concludes that no significant productivity differences exist in two research groups and their operational efficiency is not much correlated to the corresponding return on equity. These imply governmental regulations to Taiwan’s cable television industry such as fee caps and operating area limitation might be influential to cause the inconsistency between their operational efficiency and financial performance.
