Signature on a payment uses a signature private key while verification of the signature uses a corresponding verification key. Based on a specific asymmetric cryptography, the scheme allows the user to use one password as the signature private key while using a respective verification key for each digital credit card. All verification keys are stored in an NFC-embedded mobile device. When marking payment, the user selects one digital credit card and enters his/her password and then the mobile device automatically locates a corresponding verification key to produce a correct digital signature. The digital signature together with the payment is further sent to the bank for authorization. The method avoids the risk of theft that is inherent in today’s magnetic-strip credit card. The cost is less due to the use of digital form. Furthermore, asymmetric cryptography provides non-repudiation of the transaction; also, digital signature is better than handwritten signature for user identification. J. J.
