Along with the economical development, many people purchase their daily necessities not only at the traditional retail markets, but also the convenience store, the super markets and the hypermarkets. A statistical survey by the Department of Commerce found that the traditional retail markets are facing a new competition with shopping malls in last ten years, but their business competitiveness are still maintain a certain level. Therefore, it’s worth for us to review their spatial values again through in-depth study.
In this study, five traditional public retail markets in Hsin-chu city are taken as the study object.
The conclusions of the study based on the literature review, the status of investigation, interviews and surveys with the vendors and consumers. From the spatial programming at traditional retail markets, this study proposed the conclusions and recommendations of the size, arrangement and position about traditional retail market space. This study hopefully contribute to the future reconstruction of traditional markets, to meet modern use, and maintain its core values.
The conclusions of the study are as follows:
By users and to function at a market, it could be divided into five zones: Business zone, Common zone, Service facilities zone, Entrances zone, and Parking zone.
Business sides of the zones are Common zone and Service zone, Parking space of the market can be near the Common zone. There are fixed area, bawled area and diet area in the Business zone. In the common zone, there are quest square, main route, vertical route, and the rest area. In the Service zone, there are the administration office, unload cargo area, the rest area, the public toilet and trash yard.
The current status of investigations, interviews and the review of laws and regulations, respectively districts of the contents of the various space and the lowest part.
