Due to the economic potential that biotechnology can bring, government on Taiwan considers biotechnology as one of ten newly risen industries and invests heavily in biotechnology. Therefore, how to measure the performance of related enterprise, and to improve internal productive environment of company is the subject of this study. The purpose of this study is to develop a systematic and effective method to improve production environment of biotechnology, increase its capacity, and most important, to measure the performance of biotechnology-related business. Data Envelopment Analysis and Malmquist were used to evaluate companies’ performance during the year between 1994 and 1996. The results reveal that most biotechnology-related business didn’t operate efficiently. Suggestions were provided to individual enterprise to improve its performance.
