| Summary: | 碩士 === 逢甲大學 === 交通工程與管理所 === 96 === In recently years, domestic significant transportation construction projects have been completed gradually. Take highway transportation for example, National Freeway No. 3 project, West Coast Expressway Project and East-West 12 Expressways project have been completed recently. It has made Taiwan highway network been accomplished, and has improved efficiency and convenience of highway transportation. However, the complicated road network has caused the road users who are not familiar with the road routes and directions got lost easily. Therefore, the road users must stop to ask directions, and result in traffic jam and high accident rate.
How to guide road users the right direction correctly is very important to a transportation manager. In the past, the road authority set up many traffic signs in order to provide road users sufficient road information. Nevertheless, too many traffic signs often cause confusion and the road users couldn’t get the correct information in the short time. Moreover, it has become uglier to the road landscape.
This research is to design the questionnaire plan according to the investigation of the current situation and deficiency of guide sings in Taiwan, and deliberation of the domestic research report and international applications. Survey road users’ preference through the questionnaire, then set up the planning and design process and standards; finally, examine the practicability by case simulation.
The result of this result shows major or complicated intersections should apply the Graphical Sign, Graphical Sign comparing to Aligned Sign can provide more information. Mark highway numbers on the appropriate position, and collocate with direction arrows, place name will promote the function of route guidance. Place name selection principle should adopt major place name selection method and next country/county selection method to conform to long term and short term road users’ need.
I expect this research result will provide reference and basis to road authority when applying guide signs. Besides, it can reduce travel cost, accident rate, energy consumption and air pollution due to confused and incorrect road information.
