Corsi Block-Tapping Task and Spatial Span, acknowledged as an effective neuropsychological task by foreign institutes, are very sensitive to evaluation of dementia in early stage. But this kind of span task doesn’t think about visual complexity and spatial complexity, and it’s scarcity that applying to evaluation of cognitive deline.The purpose of this study is to design a visuo-spatial working memory task combinded theories of visual and spatial, and can be valid for detecting the degree of cognitive deline. The study adopted experimental research method, and 124 subjects were recruited and cllassified into two categories and five groups, including non-demented (20-40, 40-60, and over 60 years old) and cognitive impairment subjects (MCI and Mild AD), assessing them by Vsiuo-Spatial Tapping task (VST). In this task, a modified Spatial Span and Corsi block Tapping task, we redesigned all of block sequences, reconstructed spatial complexity, and visual factor was considered, there are three parameters of level, vision, and space are minipulated and investigated in three experiments, all of these are within subject design. In the first an analysis of parameters of VST. A second experiment investigated VST can discriminate the degree of cognitive decline or not. The last, a probe experiement, investigated specific error patterns about non-demented elder, MCI, and Mild AD subjects. The result revealed the parameters of level, vision, and space are importment factors for VST, be useful to discrimination among different degree kinds of cognitive deline, and demonstrated specific error patterns about non-demented elder, MCI, and Mild AD subjects. Based on the result, VST is a seminal, available,and objective visuo-spatial working memory task which integrated into visual and spatial complexity, and offered a cut-off value for clinical assessment. Finally, different degree kinds of cognitive deline would cause specific error patterns.
