Description
Summary:碩士 === 玄奘大學 === 財務金融學系碩士班 === 96 === This study examines the empirical influence of corporate governance mechanism on the operating performance of banking industry in Taiwan. The sampling period is from 2002 to 2005, in which 123 sample are selected. Data envelopment analysis is employed to estimate the operating performance in which an intermediation approach for production technology in banking industry is adopted. A bank is modeled as a multi-product firm, with three outputs (interests, investments and other revenues) given three inputs (deposits and borrowings, employees, and fix assets). Furthermore, the tobit regression is used to elucidate the relationship between corporate governance mechanism and the operating performance of banking industry. The empirical results show that independent directors and controlling share are positively related to efficiency measures. In addition, insider control of board and CEO-chairman duality are negatively related to efficiency measures. Those results imply that better corporate governance mechanism will result in better operating performance. Moreover, banks under financial holding company enjoy better operating performance. Besides, the comparison results from the stochastic frontier model is also included.
