碩士 === 義守大學 === 資訊工程學系碩士班 === 96 === Embedded system is the generic name for computer system with dedicated function. It consists of hardware and software. Embedded system can be classified into two categories. One is without the operating system support, the other one is with the operating system support. When the function of the embedded system is getting more and more complicated, especially when networking is involved, the operating system is usually needed to facilitate the embedded system design. In this research we exploited the hardware and software co-design technique to design an embedded system which is useful for multimedia applications. We used DE2 board as the development platform. It has Cyclone II FPGA, CCD and TFT LCD display interfaces. We implemented the soft-core NIOS II CPU on the FPGA, and then ported μClinux operating system on it. Some interfacing circuits which are easier to be implemented hardwarewise are also implemented on the FPGA. Finally, we designed software device drivers to control the digital camera and LCD display. By using this hardware and software co-design technique, it is proven to be effective in the embedded multi-media system prototyping.
