碩士 === 義守大學 === 資訊工程學系碩士班 === 96 === Web services are web-based applications that use open, XML-based standards and transport protocols to exchange data between calling clients and servers, thus providing a communication interface between heterogeneous platforms. Typically, developers deploy web services and publish the corresponding WSDL specifications in a UDDI registry. UDDI registry is a database where users publish services, discover services, and define how the services or software applications interact over the Internet. WSDL specification is an XML-based document for describing web services as a set of network endpoints that operate on messages. A client program connects to the web service and reads the WSDL to determine what functions are available on the server. And then it uses SOAP to actually invoke the functions listed in the WSDL specification by exchanging messages. Applications over a network normally use HTTP to carry messages in SOAP, a language- and platform-independent network protocol, so both clients and servers are free to choose the languages they would like to write their programs in. In this thesis, we develop a web service application for personal English vocabulary learning, and combine with other web services on English learning to enhance the service. The web pages give learners a new way to further their vocabulary buildup.
